I went inside. The kids got excited. I thought about spray. Then I thought about a container. Then I thought about the camera. Camera won. Spider stayed "till dad gets home". Unfortunately when dad got home, spider had moved on. Has probably now made a new home behind the visor in the car.
I know its not blog worthy, but ever since experiencing 'white' winters overseas, I just dont understand why the flies, mosquitoes and spiders cant leave us alone for a couple of months out of the year.
At least he posed.

And then decided to (lick?) clean every leg. I found this intimidating...like I was a piece of sushi and he was a Japanese food critic.

Im also not a fan of waking up early in the morning to find this going on.
Not only is it noisy, but its really annoying. They have decided to put another lane on the road outside our house. So they will be ripping up our driveway. This will be really dangerous for us driving out when its completed. Its hard to get good visuals of oncoming traffic with those huge trees...let alone when they shorten our viewing space by a couple of metres. Hmmmmm. I know I sound cranky. And I apologise. Those jackhammers are giving me really bad headaches.
The footpath has now become a ditch. My name was on that footpath. *sniff*.
I guess it does put another 3 metres of road between me and the bakery across the road (which is, in part, responsible for my expanding waist line). I do like that. I also like that the huntsman is not a Camel Spider. I have consistently been terrified of Camel Spiders for several months now (thanks Chad :) ).
Thanks for reading about the mundane in my life! Im off to enjoy the last weekend before school and uni resume. Ahh, I love breaks. Even if they are full of noise and spiders :) But mostly I love that I have time to really cherish the ones I love and make new memories together. And in a years time I wont remember this spider...but I'll remember Levi's excited reaction and his garbled re-enactment to Jack. And we wont remember the pounding of jackhammers, but will see all of our names scratched into the new driveway. And all the dozens of pictures of flowers we've taken wont matter...but knowing that we stopped to smell them and talk about Gods creation will last. I love that.

Oh, you have a much better attitude than me. I must say that my attitude is what I struggle with the most. And let me tell you, I would much rather deal with the crummy road work they've been doing at my house than deal with that spider! The fact that you walked under it and even considered getting a container makes you my hero. I probably would've stared at it, with a telescope of course, until Jay got home to save me. And then I would've made him check the entire house. After he smashed it to smitherines. =)
You brave, brave soul.
You are entirely right about the memories. It reminds me of something my mom always tells me. "If it's not gonna matter in a year, it probably won't matter in five minutes, and if it doesn't matter in five minutes, it's not worth being upset about."
I'm much more like my Dad.
*smile*
You are brave! And no, you don't have a bad attitude, I don't think! Your post reminded me of that saying, "we don't remember days, we remember moments." It's so true...
School??? Already?? How long is your guys break? Kira doesn't start school for another five weeks or so. Do you guys even take summer break when we do??
Heidi- I struggle with attitudes too...Im so glad the Holy Spirit is faithful and will complete a work in me! The spider isnt that bad...it eats cockroaches and really I'd rather deal with one of those spiders than even one cockroach. There is just something about cockroaches that really disgusts me...I imagine them spreading fatal disease and germs everywhere. Also, youre hilarious. You should start a short story, creative writing blog- youre a fantastic writer!
Shelby- I really am not brave...not at all! Yup, its definitely the moments we remember and not the days. Yup...school is starting up again today- boo hoo! We get 2 weeks break in the middle of the year, and 6 weeks over summer (Dec-Jan). Usually a brief break over Easter and around September. Americans definitely get more holidays...not fair! Then again, we dont have big winters to cope with either. Its the middle of winter and we still have green trees and flowers so they probably figure we dont need to enjoy our summers so much! ;)
How exciting that Kira is starting school! Its been such an amazing ride for us seeing Jayde grow both academically and socially and spiritually over the last year. Are you homeschooling or will she go to a local school?
Hope alls well with you both!
that is a HORRIBLE spider but a great photo. i guess its better to see it up close via a photo then in person.. you did MUCH better than me. Yesterday I just ran the other direction.
